Myofascial Release
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is the use of metallic tools enabling clinicians to treat individuals diagnosed with soft tissue dysfunctions. At Topeka Sports & Family Chiropractic we use these tools detect and treat fascial restrictions and encourage increase healing times. As in any Manual therapy treatments, this is used in conjunction with other modalities (chiropractic adjustments, rehabilitation, and proper nutrition).
IASTM works through the stimulation of a local inflammatory response. It causes light micro trauma which initiates reabsorption of inappropriate fibrosis or excessive scar tissue. This causes a cascade of healing activities resulting in remodeling of affected soft tissue structures. Adhesions within the soft tissue which may have developed as a result of:
- Surgery
- Immobilization
- Repeated strain
By removing fascial restrictions, not only does it increase joint range of motion but it also allows the clinician to start retraining and rehabbing the patient properly preventing the reoccurrence of pain.
